High School teacher Rodney LeVake's experience ought to be a wake-up call for educators who are concerned about academic freedom. We describe his experience in detail in chapter 8 of SOD volume I. Rodney LeVake has a Master's Degree in Biology.

 

January 7, 2002 - (Court) The Supreme Court refuses, without comment, to hear LeVake's appeal to them.

May 8, 2001 - (Court) LeVake's appeal is rejected by the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

"..the established curriculum and LeVake's responsibility as a public school teacher to teach evolution in the manner prescribed by the curriculum, overrides his first amendment rights as a private citizen."

July 10, 2000 - (News) TIME magazine reports on the LeVake case in an article titled "The Science of Dissent." Critics respond from CMI

June 23, 2000 - (Court) Summary judgment granted. No trial - the school's ruling is allowed to stand uncontested. Rodney LeVake vs ISD #656, Court file CX - 99 - 793.

"Plaintiff in the instant case has no constitutional right to teach his proposed criticisms of evolutionary theory, though they may be scientifically meritorious."

March 12, 2000 - (News) CNN rush transcript of a report about LeVake.
