Placing outdoor tiling is similar to installing indoor tilings on your kitchen or shower except for the additional underlay of the membranes. If you are laying the flooring yourself, check to see whether the floor is flat. Clean the floor thoroughly and let it dry before placing a layer of mortar adhesive on the floor. Put enough mortar so that it is the same length and width of the material. Each strip is about four feet long. Apply the mortar with a good sized trowel which you can find from most DIY shops. Place the membrane on the mortar. Continue the same steps till the rest of the underlay material is placed in the area to be tiled. Set the second strip of membrane next to the first and so on. Check to see if they are placed evenly on the floor. Let the membrane settle overnight before setting up two intersecting lines on the floor with a chalk snap line. Place the lines an inch above the surface of the uncoupling membrane. You will see four evenly spaced quadrants that will serve as a visual guide when you start installing the tiles. Place another layer of adhesive in the middle where the lines intersect. Apply the mortar with a notched trowel. Place enough adhesive for about four tiles. Set the first one with the corner of the tiling aligned with the intersection. Set the rest of the ceramic tiles in similar fashion in each of the other three quadrants working your way towards the outer sides. Apply mortar little by little as you place in four tiles at a time. Let these dry overnight before placing grout to seal the spaces between the tiles. Leave the area untouched for two days.
