Observation is an Important Managerial Skill

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

It is important for a manger to be able to encourage their employees through consistent motivation. This is a managerial skill that is not often considered, but when you keep your team members happy and in a good mood, they will want to over-deliver and please you as well since they feel like they are a valued member of the team. As a leader you will want to improve your managerial skills constantly, and one of the first skills is observation. Often when a manager gets swamped with deadline and budgets to review, they forget to take the time out to observe how their employees are making out with their tasks. When you observe your employees you will not only be able to keep track of their performance and progress but you can see where to improve upon time management and where to adjust your resources so that everyone can work together more harmoniously.

Vacation Time for a Crane Operator

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

When a crane operator needs to take a well-earned break, he (or she) may be entitled to some paid vacation time. How much time is earned depends on how much experience the operator has working with the company. The more experience the operator has, the more paid time off they are entitled to for their vacation. Crane operators with 20 years or more of experience in particular get better paid vacation time, an average of 1.6 weeks per year. Those with less than 20 years of experience receive just 1.0 to 1.2 weeks per year. If they are union members, they may able to earn more paid vacation, depending on whether or not their state requires union membership. Companies can sometimes match or exceed these benefits, though. The perk of paid time off can give a crane operator something to look forward to after a long, sweaty day at work.

Getting Inventory for My New Business

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

I will be opening a small store in my town. It will feature a variety of things. I have tried to order from one of my suppliers, and unfortunately was unsuccessful at the first attempt. They are a Chinese business, and their English was really hard to understand. I told them that I would be calling them again and thanked them for their time. I really want to be able to communicate effectively with them since they have many nice items for my store. They are also a fair trade business, which makes me want to support them even more. I decided that I am going to study Chinese, so that I may be able to communicate well with them. I figured with their little English and my little Chinese, we may be able to reach an agreement with better understanding. Sometimes in international business, you have to be flexible and willing to take on another language.

If You Enjoy Writing, Consider an Editing Job

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

I do freelance work as a writer. I love my job, and I love the fact that I get to express my creativity everyday. When work started to dry up recently, I panicked. I had gone to school to be a writer and it was what I was good at. I didn’t think I could find another job, and I certainly did not want to work in fast food or a grocery store. I was discussing my concerns with a fellow writer, and he admitted that he used to worry as well, but found another avenue of work that he had not considered before: editing. To be a good writer, you must have a great grasp of language and writing rules. It only makes sense that you can apply that same knowledge to another area of the same field and work as an editor. I wasn’t sure if I would like this new type of work, but within weeks, I found that I liked it almost as much as writing. It was interesting to see other people’s work, and I even found myself learning new things.

The Service of Caring

Monday, September 5th, 2011

I often put a fence between my personal life and my life at work. I often put a wall around my emotions when I get to deal with sick patients even those who are nearing the end of their lives. It’s imperative among care assistants to be objective at work. Feelings should not get in the way.

Euthanasia is a very debatable issue. Even if it’s immoral a lot of patients would request their doctors to inject them with strong tranquilizers and pain medications that my potentially put them to a comma so they can be rid of the pain. The sight of patients suffering would tear my heart but it is part of the job to be impassive. You must not put even an ounce of pity on your face. What these people need is your care and not your pity. I always remind myself that especially when I tend to cross the line.
