WELCOME! To the "Slaughter of the Dissidents" Homepage
Front page story with Dr. Jerry Bergman as he talks about someof the issues addressed in this book. (click on the image of the paper above to read the full story in the Toledo Blade, April 28, 2008) By now you've probably heard about that infamous movie so many people are talking about called EXPELLED, starring Ben Stein. No? You haven't heard? Then be sure to go here and read some reviews. I urge you to hurry up and go check it out while it's still playing for a limited engagement at your local theatre. You can see where it's playing by looking at this nationwide theatre locator list. The "Expelled" site even lists stories (text, audio, and video) of people who have been "Expelled" - just go here to check them out. So why am I even mentioning this movie? Because I want you to go see it - and if you do, you'll be at least somewhat prepared for this book. Slaughter of the Dissidents picks up where that movie "Expelled" leaves off. If you thought Expelled was mind-blowing, then this book will educate you much further on the vital issues touched on in the movie. On another front, perhaps you've heard about the Evolution Academic Freedom Bill making the rounds in various states these days? It's pretty close to getting passed into law in Florida. If you'd like to read the Senate version of this bill, you can check it out here. The House version is still pending, but is expected to be adopted within a couple of weeks. You can check out the progress by going here. The purpose of this bill is to protect the rights of students and educators to dissent with aspects of evolution without fear of reprisal. Yep, it's become so bad we need to pass a law to protect these people! Actually, our existing laws should be sufficient, but the courts have seen fit not to uphold the rights of victims of this type of discrimination. SOD goes into great details and makes it crystal clear why this type of legislation is needed. Well, both of these events are a lead-in to this book - part of a perfect storm of events converging together at pretty much the same time. It's like bringing on this issue with a huge and sudden blast that has taken many Americans by surprise. Suddenly, a growing number of people are asking: what is this all about? What do you mean we kick people out of academia just for asking questions about evolution! Is this really true? Yep - you better believe it is. You won't believe some of the reasons many educators have lost their jobs, or why some students failed to get an otherwise earned degree. This pernicious form of discrimination is very appalling to most Americans when they learn about this issue. And this book goes into great detail about how and why it occurs, and provides you with scores of actual case studies. As you read it you'll discover that one of the most precious things we own is at risk, right here in America. What is that? In a word, FREEDOM Freedom to disagree without losing your job or being denied an earned degree. Freedom to tell people you dare to question any aspect of evolution on scientific grounds - without referencing any religious text. And also the freedom to let others know what you personally believe outside of science without having such an utterance turn into a witch hunt. Do you know it has reached the point in America where, on this subject at least, if you are an educator and you opine that you have reservations about any aspect of evolution based on scientific evidence, you are often immediately labeled as "religious" in many academic institutions, and are immediately determined to be 'unfit' to teach science or get a science degree? And speaking of religion, it looks like we live in an era where freedom OF religion has been twisted to mean freedom FROM religion. Such groups proclaim that "Freedom depends on free thinkers," unless of course you happen to be religious. Yes, it's THAT bad! Challenging the veracity of any aspect of evolution has become the kiss of death for the career of many an educator, student, and scientist. And the reaction of those who seek to harm Darwin skeptics for their crime of doubt is palpable, almost visceral. It's as if someone lit a fuse on their misdirected outrage, which fuels their ambition to seek the removal of the human cancer in their midst - the Darwin Doubter. They are on a seek and destroy mission. And the damage created by this sort of treatment? In addition to losing careers, many Darwin Doubters also often lose their entire savings fighting for the rights they expect they should have. They lose their wives, husbands, and families are torn apart. Their lives are turned inside out. The modern evolutionary elitist thugs leave no stone unturned in the wake of their rabid assault againt the freedoms of Darwin skeptics. And who is paying attention to all this? And more important, why should anyone care? Well, if you can't get behind what's happening to Darwin skeptics, can you get behind standing up for the freedoms that they are being deprived of? Because if people can be attacked as mercilessly as this group, who is to say what group might be next? The root of this issue is freedom (not the self-serving sanctity of science as the opponents of Darwin skeptics argue...), and it is the denial of many freedoms we all expect to have that is being thrown under the bus here. Listen, science can survive just fine - in fact it thrives - in an environment of challenge. If you silence and remove the voices of skepticism, what remains? Dogma. Many Darwinists are essentially saying, "only we can be right", and" if you're not with us, you can't sit at the table with us." Dogma connotes arrogance - and that is exactly what we're looking at coming from those who discriminate against Darwin Doubters. Just read any blog devoted to the subject, and you'll see this right on the surface - these people don't hide their disdain - nor do their groupie respondents. As you read the case studies in SOD, you'll see the unmistakable arrogance of many who, fueled by their sense of outrage, take unbelievable steps to ensure that the career of the skeptic is completely savaged. Freedom is one of America's most cherished ideals, and it's currently under bigtime attack. And the threat is growing. Unless more people take action to turn the tide on this issue, then we may lose even more ground. This book (SOD for short) presents you with instance after instance of people in academia and the scientific community who have lost their jobs, been denied tenure, were denied earned degrees, were demoted on the job, and many times suffered various forms of public humiliation and chastisement. And for what? Because they dared to dissent about some aspect of evolution or Darwinism. For that, many people (students, educators, scientists, etc.) have been viciously treated like the scum of the earth. Oh, and it gets better. The courts don't seem very interested in protecting the rights of these skeptics either. You'll read all about that in this book as well. And if you DO have problems with evolutionary theory, you are immediately branded as an outcast, a heretic, an IDiot, a creatard, or someone who is "teaching religion" and posing a serious threat to our kids. Not to mention the victims of this form of discrimination may get branded for life, and often find it nearly impossible to return to a job as an educator or scientist. The author of this book, Dr. Jerry Bergman, has been the victim of this type of discrimination himself. In fact, he has spent the last 30 years researching this topic and brings to you the wisdom and insight that comes both from his experience and the observations made in the process of compiling scores of case studies. There is no one better qualified than Jerry to bring you this book.
Here's just a taste of what you'll discover inside: - Which sitting jurist actually ruled on one of these cases before he was appointed to the Supreme Cour? You'll want to get ahead of the curve on this one, as everyone else in the country scratches their heads wondering how he might rule on similar or related cases in the future . We scoop it for you! - When is it OK to teach ID or creationism at most universities? - What are the landmines you absolutely must avoid if you are an educator? - What is the most common (but incorrect) assumption made by most Darwin Doubting educators that often leads to their termination? What is it they think they can safely do (but can't?) - What are the various situations that have spelled doom for the careers of hundreds of educators and scientists? - Is it really true that there are no peer-reviewed articles published in reputable science journals written by Darwin skeptics? IDers? Creationists? - What academic institutions have had incidents where educators were let go, or were pressured to change their curricula, or were thwarted in some way from getting a degree or were marked down on their grades? You'll find out in this book. Granted, the leadership at some of these institutions changes over time, and just because there were problems in the past does not mean that Darwin skeptics would be treated the same way today. On the other hand, some universities have demonstrated decades of chronic discrimination. Suprisingly, many of these universities are not secular! And much much more. This book isn't just a 60 pager - heck, the biblography alone is bigger than that! This book going to be HUGE! Not only in size, but in impact. It will be the first and foundational book of its genre documenting the widespread discrimination against Darwin skeptics in America. Lots of people will say that Darwin skeptics are getting just what they deserve. Hopefully, you'll read this book see for yourself if those comments have any merit. I promise you this much, if you're new to this topic, you'll be shaking your head in disbelief and shock over what's in this book. I kid you not - I've read it several times already, and I have to say that what's inside will make you wonder how and why this has gone on for so long. Mark your calendar!
